Knowing your balance is really important. It is not wise to self prescribe any mineral supplementation without knowing if you really need that mineral. The reason is that all minerals work together in groups, some friendly and the others in opposition with each other. For example, if you take too much zinc, you could push your level of copper too low. Likewise, if your copper level is too high, that could explain why you have low zinc, even though your diet is great. Your heart and joints are in need of copper... I am surprised at how many people are zinc deficient! In my clinic, I test all new clients for zinc deficiency using a liquid zinc preparation as a taste test. As zinc deficiency also causes deterioration to your sense of taste, when I give a small dose of zinc to my client, their reaction to the zinc in their mouth tells me if they may be deficient. Zinc is also needed to produce enzymes for optimal digestion, and for a healthy immune system. For clients who I suspect are deficient, we can further test by a Hair Mineral Analysis where a sample of hair is sent to the laboratory to have every molecule of all major and minor minerals counted and graphed. This is a brilliant tool for dealing with complex health problems. Sometimes I find that a client’s copper level is many times off the graph it is so elevated. Or they may have some heavy, toxic metals such as mercury or lead in their body. This calls for a very specific type of detox program to clear the toxic minerals and allow their body to heal. Your skin is like a barometer of your health, reflecting the need for certain vitamins, minerals, good oils, or protein …or reflecting your glowing health. What is it like in your skin?
